ABOUT ORTHODOX CHURCH RGV

Ancient Faith. Local Roots.

Orthodox Church RGV is a shared Orthodox media and outreach ministry serving the Orthodox Christian communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Puro Ortho 956 is an Orthodox Christian RGV podcast presented by Orthodox Church RGV, featuring real questions, live conversations, and the ancient Orthodox Faith.

Echoing the Faith We Have Received.

ANCIENT, NOT FOREIGN.

A Faith nearly 2,000 years old — taking root here.

Orthodox Christianity traces its life continuously back to the apostolic Church. Across centuries, the Faith has taken root among peoples, languages, and cultures throughout the world while remaining recognizably and fully Orthodox.

Now it’s taking root here.

In South Texas. In our families. In our communities. In the Rio Grande Valley.

“Taking root” does not mean changing Orthodox teaching to fit a local culture. The ancient Faith becomes genuinely local wherever people receive it, live it, and hand it on while remaining fully Orthodox.

ORTHODOX LIFE IN THE 956

ANCIENT FAITH. LOCAL ROOTS.

ORTHODOXY IN THE 956

From one parish community to a growing local presence.

For years, St. George has served as an Orthodox home in Hidalgo County and a center of Orthodox parish life in the Valley.

As Orthodox interest and community life grew across the region, the need for a closer presence in Cameron County became increasingly clear.

Dormition Mission became a new local expression of that growth, serving the Lower Rio Grande Valley and Cameron County.

ROOTED IN HIDALGO COUNTY

St. George Orthodox Church

St. George serves as the established Orthodox parish community in Pharr and Hidalgo County, drawing faithful and inquirers from across the western Rio Grande Valley.

Its parish life helped provide the foundation, relationships, and continuity from which wider Orthodox outreach in the Valley could grow.

GROWING IN CAMERON COUNTY

Dormition of the Birthgiver of God Mission

Dormition Mission serves Cameron County and the Lower Rio Grande Valley, helping build Orthodox parish life closer to the families and communities of the eastern Valley.

Dormition represents the next stage of local Orthodox growth — not a separate identity from the wider Church, but another rooted Orthodox community serving a different part of the Valley.

WHY THE 956 MATTERS

An ancient Faith. A local home.

The Rio Grande Valley has its own families, rhythms, stories, languages, and sense of place. Orthodox Church RGV exists to show that Orthodox Christianity is not something that belongs only somewhere else.

The Faith is ancient. The home can be local.

Orthodoxy in the 956 is not a reinvention of the Faith. It is the ancient Orthodox Faith lived here — in South Texas, among the people and communities of the Rio Grande Valley.
